Beagle Size By Age Predictions

Beagle is considered a small or medium sized breed. So, how big do Beagles get? Most commonly, Beagles weigh anywhere between 15 to 30 pounds. Their standing height is usually about 18-22 inches, and withers height is around 13-16 inches.

On average, a regular Beagle will reach their full-grown height at around 8 months of age and will finish growing in weight at around 18 months.

In addition, it’s important you know the estimated size of your Beagle pup once they’re adults for two important reasons. Firstly, using your puppy’s adult weight you can find out how many calories your puppy should eat daily.

Secondly, underfeeding or overfeeding your dog can have lasting effects on their health. As Beagles are prone to obesity, it’s especially important you keep an eye on your pup’s food intake to be on the safe side. Here you can learn more about how much you should feed your puppy

Are There Different Sizes Of Beagle?

The average Beagle size usually ranges between 15-30 pounds, which is a fairly wide estimate. In fact, there are two main Beagle sizes. The smaller Beagle is considered a pup who is 13 inches or less in height as an adult. Larger Beagles usually stand around 13 to 16 inches tall. Therefore, it also makes sense that smaller Beagles weigh a bit less than larger Beagles.

Of course, the average Beagle size will depend on a variety of factors like the parents’ weight, grandparents’ weight, breeding, and nutrition. In addition, although there isn’t a significant difference, female Beagles can be a bit smaller than males.

Moreover, Pocket Beagles, a.k.a. the Mini Beagle’s size is even smaller than average Beagle size. So how big do Pocket Beagles get? Pocket Beagle’s size usually ranges around 7 to 15 pounds in weight and 7 to 12 inches in height. However, breeding Pocket Beagles is a bit of a controversial topic, as smaller, miniature dogs are more prone to health problems.

If you have your eyes set on a tinier Beagle, we recommend you find a good breeder who is able to tell you the estimated size of their Beagle puppies. Here you can learn about choosing a responsible breeder.

*When looking at these measurements, keep in mind that a dog’s height is not measured from the top of its head but from its withers. This is the point between their shoulder blades.

Typically, Beagles stop growing at 18 months of age. Until then, even after reaching their full height and most of the weight, their skeletal bones are still forming and developing.

Beagle Size Charts & Growth Patterns – Month Wise

From birth until around 6 months of age, Beagles experience a rapid growth phase. Around 6-8 months old, Beagles reach their full adult height. Once they’re 1.5 years old, they’ve stopped growing in both height and weight. Even if your Beagle is full-grown in height, they’re still going to steadily grow in terms of weight over the next several months.

Additionally, this is why it’s particularly important that your Beagle puppy gets the correct nourishment he needs to grow that adorable little body into a healthy adult one. Check out these guides on best dog food for puppies here.

Here’s a typical growth pattern of an average larger Beagle:

Naturally, not all Beagles follow the same exact schedule for growing. After all, they’re living beings. Some might grow faster, others a bit slower. However, it’s important we note that you should always feed a puppy with a special puppy food formula.

All pet owners have the responsibility to keep their furbabies healthy and happy. Beagles are no exception. For a Beagle pup to become a healthy full-grown dog, a balanced and nutritious diet is crucial. High quality formulas specially designed for puppies provide them essential nutrients that help them achieve their healthiest size.

How Big Is A Full Grown Beagle?

A typical Beagle’s adult size varies between 13 to 16 inches in height and between 15-30 pounds. However, different factors affect a Beagle’s full-grown size. These include their genetic makeup, parents’ height and weight, gender, nutrition and exercise.

What Are The Different Sizes Of Beagles?

Most commonly, Beagles come in two sizes – smaller Beagles and larger Beagles. Officially, Beagles who are shorter than 13 inches are considered smaller Beagles. Beagles who stand around 13-16 inches tall, are considered larger Beagles.

In addition, there are also Pocket Beagles, who can weigh as little as 7-15 pounds. However, we would like to highlight that Pocket Beagles might be bred unethically and have serious genetic defects that affect their well-being.

You can calculate their potential adult weight at 23 weeks by taking what they weigh at that age and multiplying it by two.

A different formula you could use is:

  1. Growth = current weight / current age in weeks
  2. Adult weight = Growth x 52 (number of weeks in one year)

So, for example, if your 12-week old pup weighs 18 pounds. You simply divide the current weight by their age in weeks and multiply the result with 52:

18/ 12 = 1.5
1.5 x 52= 78 pounds

78 pounds would be the expected weight of your adult-sized Beagle.

Is A Beagle A Small Or Medium Dog?

Beagles are considered both small and medium sized dogs, depending on their height and weight. Even though the larger Beagle is still a rather small dog, it’s important to keep in mind that they aren’t just lapdogs. If you consider welcoming a Beagle to your family, make sure you have time set aside for playtime and exercise for their proper growth, development, and wellbeing.

In conclusion, Beagles are absolutely wonderful dogs with many amazing qualities. They’re playful, intelligent, independent, yet affectionate. Even though leaning on the smaller size, they have big personalities and make great companions for families.
