With distinct features and absolutely amazing personalities, Boxers are one of the most sought after breeds. Boxer dogs are well known for their loyal and affectionate temperament. They’re completely devoted to their families and have plenty of patience when sharing a household with children.

Boxers amass amazingly high energy levels and therefore require lots of exercise to stay healthy and happy. Their strong and muscular bodies also hint to a love of exercise, clearly. Even though Boxers can grow into large dogs, they are not suitable for outdoor living. Rather, having a fenced backyard will surely satisfy any Boxer’s exercise needs.

Boxer Size By Age Predictions

Before adopting any dog, it’s important to understand the size predictions of your future family member. Firstly, depending on your pup’s size, you might need to consider if your house is suitable for them to live a comfortable life. Secondly, knowing the estimated size of your pup helps you understand the regular costs for their food and other needs.

Thirdly, growing Boxer puppies need plenty of food and nourishment to grow into healthy full-grown Boxers. Knowing the estimated size of your pup is the basis of calculating their daily meals and calorie requirements. Therefore, it’s paramount that you know what to expect, so your pup can live a long and fulfilling life.

However, there are other factors that can affect the full-grown size of a Boxer puppy. In addition to their genetic makeup, your Boxer pup’s gender, nutrition, and exercise can also play a role in their growth and development.

Are There Different Sizes Of Boxer?

Although the average Boxer size ranges between 50 and 80 pounds, female full-grown Boxers tend to weigh less than the male pups. The difference can be up to 15 pounds between the males and females.

*A dog’s height is measured from their withers a.k.a the shoulder blades.

As we can see from the Boxer size chart, the females are a few inches shorter than the male Boxers are, and can weigh up to 15 pounds less than the males. Additionally, although there’s only one recognized Boxer breed, there are some differences between American, German, and UK Boxers. Typically, a German Boxer is larger than the American and UK Boxers. On the other hand, UK Boxers tend to run smaller than American full-grown Boxers.

Boxer Size Charts & Growth Patterns

Even though they are most commonly referred to as medium sized dogs, they do take a bit longer to develop into full-grown Boxers than some other medium sized breeds. Generally, Boxers reach their full-grown size around the time they’re 1.5 to 2 years old.

Additionally, this is why it’s particularly important that your Boxer puppy gets the correct nourishment he needs to grow that adorable little body into a healthy adult one. Check out these guides on best dog food for puppies here.

Let’s have a look at a typical Boxer dog size chart:

Weight20-30 pounds37-61 pounds48-75 pounds50-80 pounds
Height12-15 inches16-19 inches20-24 inches21.5-25 inches

Boxers experience the most rapid growth phase in the first 6 months of their life. Usually, by that time, they’ve reached 75% of their adult weight. However, these numbers are not set in stone, as some pups do grow faster, and some a bit slower.

As we can see in the Boxer dog size chart above, Boxers usually reach most of their adult weight and height by the time they’re 12 months old. From there on, their growth will slow down significantly. Around the time they are 18 to 24 months old, Boxers finish growing.

Naturally, larger Boxers will reach their adult size later than Boxers on the lower end of the scale. However, all Boxers will continue to gain girth and fill up their chest cavities well over their first birthdays.

Tip: If you’re not sure whether your Boxer puppy has fully-grown into an adult, look at their paws. If their paws look disproportionately big compared to the rest of their body, they still have some growing to do!

Is A Boxer A Medium Or Large Breed?

Boxer is a medium to large sized breed with a boxy chest and muscular body. Even though they aren’t too big to live comfortably in an apartment, they do have high energy levels and require lots of exercise during the day. If you’d like to welcome a Boxer to your family, make sure you have enough time to spare for exercise and playtime in a backyard or a dog park nearby.

What Is The Average Size Of A Boxer Dog?

Full-grown female Boxers usually weigh around 50 to 65 pounds, and stand around 21.5 to 23 inches tall at the shoulder. Male full-grown Boxers usually weigh more than females with an average of 65 to 80 pound body weight. They usually stand around 23 to 25 inches tall at the shoulder.

How Big Do Boxers Get Full-Grown?

Full-grown Boxers can weigh anywhere between 50 to 80 pounds, and stand around 21.5 to 25 inches tall at the shoulders. Usually, they’ve reached most of their adult weight and height by the time they’re around a year old. However, Boxers tend to gain a bit more weight and height until they’re about 1.5 to 2 years old, especially around the chest area.

You can calculate their potential adult weight at 23 weeks by taking what they weigh at that age and multiplying it by two.

A different formula you could use is:

  1. Growth = current weight / current age in weeks
  2. Adult weight = Growth x 52 (number of weeks in one year)

So, for example, if your 12-week old pup weighs 18 pounds. You simply divide the current weight by their age in weeks and multiply the result with 52:

18/ 12 = 1.5
1.5 x 52= 78 pounds

78 pounds would be the expected weight of your adult-sized Boxer.

We hope you found this Boxer size guide helpful in understanding the sizes and growth patterns of Boxers. After all, knowing the estimated adult size of your Boxer puppy will provide you a better understanding of what type of living conditions you can provide them. After all, what every dog owner wants is for their furry little companion to thrive and live the best life possible!
