Cavalier King Charles Spaniel By Age Predictions
Cavalier King Charles Spaniel is an adorable dog with qualities that are desirable for many people. They’re very loving, fun, and playful. And thanks to their small size, they don’t require too much space, making them the perfect dogs for people living in apartments or families who would enjoy an affectionate companion.
Even though Cavalier King Charles Spaniel is considered a toy breed by the AKC, they’re on the larger end of the scale. But how big do Cavalier King Charles Spaniels get? Cavalier King Charles Spaniel’s full-grown size ranges around 13-18 pounds in weight and between 12-13 inches in height.
Having said this, it’s important your puppy gets the right amount of food while growing up. Over or underfeeding your dog can have lasting effects on their health. Furthermore, your pup’s energy and nutrient requirements are based on their estimated full-grown size; another reason for you to be prepared and know what to expect!

Luckily, there are a few ways how you can guesstimate your Cavalier King Charles Spaniel adult size. We’ll dive into it in a moment. But first, let’s have a look at the different sizes of the breed.
Are there different sizes of Cavalier King Charles Spaniel?
Like with many other dogs, male Cavalier King Charles Spaniels can be a little bit bigger than female pups. Male pups are usually taller and a few pounds heavier.
Did you know that there’s also a separate breed called English Toy Spaniel? Fun fact: another name for that breed is King Charles Spaniel, which can make things a bit confusing. The average size of Cavalier King Charles Spaniel is 13-16 pounds in weight and 12-13 inches in height. The English Toy Spaniel is a bit smaller dog, typically weighing between 8-14 pounds and standing 9-10 inches tall.
Additionally, you may have heard about Teacup aka Miniature Cavalier King Charles Spaniels. They have just as much cuteness and personality as the average Cavalier King Charles Spaniel, but in a much concentrated, tinier form.
Miniature Cavalier King Charles Spaniel’s size is usually between 5-10 inches in height and they weigh less than 10 pounds. However, it’s important to note that not all breeders do their jobs ethically. Some Teacup Cavs might have the dwarfism gene, or have been bred from runts.
Unfortunately, dwarfism puts pups at a risk of health issues like spinal abnormalities, underdeveloped muscles, heart or cranial problems, and more. Likewise, runts are puppies who are unusually small compared to others. Thus, they are more prone to health problems like having a weakened immune system or heart problems.

Cavalier King Charles Spaniel Size Charts & Growth Patterns
Like most dogs, Cavalier King Charles Spaniels will grow most rapidly in the first 6 months of their life. During that time, you can expect your pup to gain weight and grow taller very quickly. In the upcoming months, they will continue to grow, but at a slower pace.
Typically, you can expect your Cavalier King Charles to reach their adult height at around 8 to 10 months old. However, your pup will still be gaining some weight to round up and gain some girth. Usually, by the time they turn 1 year old, they have reached their full size. On the other hand, some pups do continue growing up to 15 months of age.
Additionally, this is why it’s particularly important that your Cavalier King Charles Spaniel puppy gets the correct nourishment he needs to grow that adorable little body into a healthy adult one. Check out these guides on best dog food for puppies here.

You can predict Cavalier King Charles Spaniel adult size with our interactive puppy growth calculator. Of course, no formula can ever exactly predict your puppy’s full-grown size. However, it can be used as a helpful tool in determining your pup’s dietary and living requirements.
You can also roughly calculate your pup’s full-grown size by dividing your puppy’s weight at 12 weeks old with their age in weeks, and then multiplying it by 52. Another formula is to weigh them at 8 weeks and multiply it by 4.
How big is a full grown Cavalier King Charles Spaniel?
An average full-grown Cavalier King Charles Spaniel’s size is usually 12 to 13 inches tall at the withers and they weigh around 13 to 18 pounds. Teacup Cavs typically weigh less than 10 pounds.
You can calculate their potential adult weight at 23 weeks by taking what they weigh at that age and multiplying it by two.
A different formula you could use is:
- Growth = current weight / current age in weeks
- Adult weight = Growth x 52 (number of weeks in one year)
So, for example, if your 12-week old pup weighs 18 pounds. You simply divide the current weight by their age in weeks and multiply the result with 52:
18/ 12 = 1.5
1.5 x 52= 78 pounds
78 pounds would be the expected weight of your adult-sized Cavalier King Charles Spaniel.
Thanks to its small size, Cavalier King Charles does not need much space and can very comfortably live in an apartment. However, as with any other dog, they still require regular exercise, playtime, and a safe living environment.
